Help the Victims of Katrina

Why does it take a disaster of epic proportions to rouse TheDo-Gooder.com from its slumber? Ethical people of the world unite and give all you can to help the victims of the storm. I recommend the Red Cross, 1-800-HELP-NOW. You can find a list of other charities aiding victims of the storm on FEMA's Web site. And please, don't forget the non-human victims of the disaster: thousands of pets and animals who are now homeless and helpless. You can aid them by donating to the Humane Society's Disaster Relief Fund. Watch this space for new ravings soon. After you've donated.

Is TheDo-Gooder.com Dead?

NO! It is however very, very stagnant. For which I apologize and have no excuse. I promise updates will be forthcoming in the near future. Also, for those of you in The New York City area, on Monday May 23 I'll be appearing at Strain Relief II, a benefit variety show at the Access Theater in Tribeca. I'd love to see you there. Details follow.

News of the Week, 4/1/2005

A round-up of the week's ethics-related news. Warning: may contain satire. Top Story: A fifteen-year legal battle over the life of Terri Schiavo ended Thursday, thirteen days after her feeding tube was removed under the orders of her husband. In response to Ms Schiavo's death, millions of Americans were inspired to create living wills mandating that, if they end up on life support, Congress must decide whether they live or die.

Hey, Wait Another Minute

I'm not going to presume to make a judgment as to whether Terri Schiavo's feeding tube should be reinserted, but her case raises serious ethical issues relating not only to the "right to die," but also to government and to the judiciary. Unfortunately, too many people are choosing sides in this debate without listening to all points of view. ...
